You want to get rid of that pain as quickly as possible, and we can help.

Signs you should visit us for a UTI

In addition to the hallmark sign — a burning feeling when you pee — UTIs often come with unwelcome symptoms like:

  • A need to pee that doesn’t go away
  • Having trouble peeing, or only going a small amount
  • Urine that looks cloudy
  • Bad-smelling urine
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Pelvic pressure or pain
  • Blood in your urine

If any of that sounds familiar, call our office. With a same-day appointment, we can help you start clearing up your symptoms right away.

What to expect with UTI treatment

As the name suggests, urinary tract infections are a type of infection that affects your urinary tract. Fortunately, the vast majority of UTIs are caused by bacteria, like E. coli. That means we can clear up the infection with antibiotics.

First, we need to make sure that you have a bacterial infection, not something else. At our office, we get a small sample of your urine and test it in a laboratory to diagnose UTI.

With your diagnosis in hand, we develop a treatment plan, which, for most UTIs, means completing a round of antibiotics.

Once you start taking the antibiotic, you should start feeling better within 24 hours. Within a couple of days, most of your symptoms should be gone. Pairing our same-day appointments with an antibiotic provides you with rapid relief from your UTI symptoms.

As you go through your antibiotic treatment, drink plenty of water and other fluids. That helps flush the bacteria out of your urinary tract and gives you more notable relief quickly.

Preventing future UTIs

Once you’ve had one UTI, you are likely to get another one. One study found that more than half of women 55 and older had another UTI within a year, and more than a third of younger women did, too.

Some preventive measures help here.

First, hydrate. Drinking water also helps you continually flush your urinary tract, preventing UTI from coming back.

Then:

  • Wipe from front to back
  • Regularly change your period products
  • Try to urinate shortly after intercourse
  • Use a water-based lubricant
  • Keep your vaginal area clean and dry

Discuss the issue with our team if you continue having UTIs. Making changes to your birth control or adding interventions like cranberry products or probiotics can help. Our team works with you to get lasting relief from these uncomfortable infections.

Don’t suffer through your UTI. For same-day care, call Midwest Women OB/GYN Ltd at 630-852-3762 or request an appointment online today.
